Old Poetry

This is not even close to how lyrical it is in greek

The waves came by me at night
And drew with lyrics two stars in me
I remember giving my hand to thee
Because you didn’t forget the light
When your joy was torn apart
After doves had ripped your heart
For you knew you hadn’t yet lost
That with your friends you'd haunt away the ghosts
And millions of summers were to be spent on the sand
Your enemies’ knives were out of hand
(Covered are now with rust)
And the guns they used to hide are left to dust.

At morning I was awaken by the song of the sea
Before the raindrops dry, mixed with tears
For the first time, I could really see
And my inner child told me all her fears
The thing that kept her up al night,
(When unseen beasts gave her a fright)
Never to leave her alone in a storm
In eternity, to keep her warm
And I realized my heart had won
I said to her “Don’t worry… Don’t”
The child would ask for fairy tales for long.

I told her I would always tell her stories
About dragons, fairies, knights and birds
To make her first thoughts to be the very best
Even if later the truth hurts
I told her that she’ll never be in pain
That I’ll give her, her best boots to wear in the rain
Every bad dream is taken by the stream.
Now when she dreams she doesn’t want to awake.
Beautiful will always be her lifelong wake.

Pain of Salvation - Be review

Be is the 5th studio album by Pain of Salvation and its concept deals with the existence of God and humans. It's set in a fictional world and it begins with a narration. It's an album filled with beautiful melodies, contrast and sounds just like a soundtrack at some points. The band also performed it as a Rock Opera which was published as "BE" live DVD. Pain of Salvation had an orchestra play with them in this album, called "The orchestra of eternity"
This album is almost impossible to review acurately. You'll have to listen for yourself. It's an albumyou'll either love or hate. There are no inbetweens.
Prologue

01. Animae Partus ("I am") - A God Is Born ("I Am")

This begins with the melody of  Martius/Nauticus II and is a Narration of a being (Animae) that seems to have no memory of when he/she/it didn't exist and ends with the words "I will call myself GOD and I will spend the rest of forever trying to figure out who I am"

"BE" (CHINASSIAH) (loose translation fragile messiah)

I Animae Partus

02. Deus Nova - New God.
A beautiful instrumental piece that filled me with awe as it started listing the growth of human population through the millenia up to year 2000AD. Very intense.

03. Imago (Homines Partus) - Imago (Man Is Born)
This is a folk-like song about the creation of mankind and a preview of its arrogance  "See me! I am the one creation
Hear me! I am all the love that came from Animae"

04. Pluvius Aestivus - Summer Rain
(The Story of Man Begins)

A heartbreaking instrumental piece

II Machinassiah
Of Gods& Slaves

05. Lilium Cruentus (Deus Nova) - Blood Stained Lily (New God).

A song about losing people you love, about grief and dealing with death. Beautiful music, playing between intense and peaceful melodies

06. Nauticus (Drifting) - Nauticus (Drifting).
Nauticus is "the smartest space probe " ever made and drifts through space trying to help Earth be saved by itself

07. Dea Pecuniae - Goddess of Money

A musical-like song revolving around Mr. Money who is trying to buy immortality through cryogenics.

III Machinageddon

08. Vocari Dei - Messages to God
Also described as "God's answering machine" this is real people leaving messages on an answering machine that was published through PoS's newsletter. PoS asked their fans to call and tell the answering machine whatever they would want to tel God. The music in combination with all those people pouring their hearts out has me in tears every time

09. Diffidentia (Breaching the Core) - Disobedience(Breaching The Core)
Imago (Human) begins to defy Animae (God). A song with a taste of Dark Years, Blood and Disobedience

10. Nihil Morari - Nothing Remains
(Homines Fabula Finis) - The Story of Man Comes To An End

Imago begins to realise they have, well, fucked up the world and wonders how they can survive if they keep acting like fools. Recurring melody from "Deus Nova" reciting population growth through years 2010-2050

IV Machinauticus
11. Latericius Valete - If You Are Strong, Be Strong
The end of mankind. Apocalypse. Billions killed.

12. Omni - Everything
In this song someone is hoping Nauticus will return to save humans. Beautiful organ music

13. Iter Impius - Wicked Path
A beautiful, heartbreaking post-apocalypse song about Mr. Money waking up to a dead world.

14. Martius/Nauticus II
Nauticus returns. One of the prettiest melodies in the album with a recurring melody of Imago

V Deus Nova Mobile

15. Animae Partus II
The album ends in the same manner as it begins "I AM!"

Bag of Bones by Stephen King Review

First things first: This is my absolute favourite book by Stephen King. I have read it so many times since 1998 when I bought it that I wonder why am I reading it over and over again. I know it by heart. I have even been using lines from the book in my everyday life without realising it. I am able to visualise it vividly when I read it. In short: I LOVE THIS BOOK

Now that this is out of the way I should probably let you know what the book is all about.

So much for happy beginnings
The main character's pregnant wife dies in the very first page. YES. WTF. The main character, Mike Noonan, is a writer but after the unfortunate and unexpected death of Jo (his wife) he starts suffering from writer's block and not just your average Joe writer's block! He gets panic attacks at the moment he turns on his word processor. Mike, however, doesn't let anyone know that he is suffering and keeps publishing old works he had saved when ideas flooded his brains but after four years the manuscripts end and publishers start pushing for a new novel. Mike realises that he must gather his pieces and start his life again but keeps getting panic attack after panic attack.

During the four years since the loss of Jo, Mike had a series of nightmares involving their summer cottage "Sarah Laughs" (named after a blues since Sarah Tidwell who spent some time in TR in the beginning of the century) on Darkshore Lake on the edge of a yankee town called TR-90. Mike returns to the TR to discover that Jo, in the few years before her death, had been researching Sara Tidwell's story, and apparently searching through the dirty secrets of the locals in the process. TR's "loveable" yanks seem less than happy to talk about when and how Sarah and her extended family came to leave the TR.

The Here and Now
On his way to the local fast food, Mike becomes involved in a custody dispute between a poor, young widowed mother and her daughter's grandfather (on her father's side) an ancient, millionaire who has the TR wrapped around his boney finger. Mike, having lost both his wife and his unborn child finds himself loving dearly the little girl and her beautiful young mother. On top of that "Sara Laughs" seems to be haunted by several chatty ghosts, including as it seems this of his wife. Certain Supernatural events include but are not limited to messages on the refrigerator in magnetic letters, the tinkling bell around a mounted moose head's neck, and ghost banging on walls while trying to communicate. In the meanwhile, Mike miraculously starts writing again.

Happy Endings

I'm not going to spoil anymore for you folks, go pick up the book and read it. Especially since it will be a miniseries in 2011. You wouldn't want to miss on the plot twists of the book by only watching the series ;D

Other Stephen King characters that you may know and are mentioned or met in BoB.
(I love when writers do that ^^)
  • Ralph Roberts, the main character from Insomnia
  • Ray Garraty, the main character from The Long Walk
  • Mike Noonan reads books by Bill Denbrough from It.
  • Sara Laughs is located on Dark Score Lake, from Gerald's Game.
  • Mike Noonan lives in Derry, the setting for It and Insomnia.
  • Thad Beaumont, from The Dark Half, is mentioned as having killed himself.
  • Norris Ridgewick, sheriff of Castle Rock, shows up at Mike's door. Mike asks about former sheriff Alan Pangborn, and Norris mentions Polly Chalmers. All three were central characters in Needful Things.
  • Jared Devore, Max's ancestor, mentions Shawshank Prison.
  • The importance of 19, a number of talismanic power in The Dark Tower series, is introduced here.
  • A woman Mike meets in the gym is said to be reading a book by Ellen Gilchrist; this is the maiden name of Ellen Rimbauer (Rose Red)

Songs that made me cry part 1

There's not a lot of things to say about this one.  The lyrics alone are heartbreaking, not to mention the version where Jon sings it for Criss. "...Knowing what we know could we let it go realizing that all the years are used..."
(And I'd like to mention here that this is but one of the many  Savatage songs that make me cry. and so as to avoid becoming tiring I will only mention by name: "Believe"-which is my favourite song ever-, "Silk& Steel", "Heal my soul", "St. Patrick's", "A little too far", When the crowds are gone")

I've, thank God, never had a miscarriage. This song though speaks to my heart and I think it manages to make me feel like Daniel and his wife felt. So painful and beautiful and real. "I never saw your face and now you're gone without a trace, except the trace of blood that's deeply scarred into my eyes to fill your place. It'll never be the same but I will love you just the same I was prepared to be your father How can I ever prepare for that again?"
(Again this is one of many PoS songs that have me bawling. Others: "Iter Impius", "Vocari Dei", "Undertow", "Ashes", "TPE", "Oblivion Ocean", "Chainsling")

When I dated my husband we lived around 400km apart from each other. That is a lot of km to travel (back and forth) every week and have to be ready for school or work so this song meant so much. And still means. "How I wish, how I wish you were here..."

See above. Plus our first date was during a concert so this song kind of became our song :3 "I wish this night could last forever, but it's time to go..."

I like feeling like the damsel in distress once in a while. Sue me
"Say you love me every waking moment, turn my head with talk of summertime . . . Say you need me with you, now and always..."

That's all for now. I can't remember any more :D

Abarat by Clive Barker review

Abarat is a real gem by the horror master Clive Barker. A modern day fairytale that has equal doses of magic and horror. The hero of the book is Candy Quackenbush, a teenage girl with heterochromia(her eyes are different colours) who is bored out of her mind about everything in her hometown Chickentown, Minnesota. After fighting with a her teacher, she leaves the school wanders to the edge of Chickentown where she sees the remains of a lighthouse which is extremely peculiar since there's no sea anywhere around. There she meets the strangest creature ever, John Mischief, who's pursued by a villain. By a series of weird events, Candy leaves her world and ends up in Abarat that consists of twentyfive islands, each representing/living in a different time of the day.

Magical places, beautiful creatures and bloodfreezing enemies fill this unique masterpiece. One book where you finally like the villain without him being a stud. I highly recommend it to both fairytale and horror lovers, it's a book that will suck you in and you won't be able to easily put it away. A pleasure as a read and as imagery as it is illustrated by Clive Barker himself.

The book has a sequel called Abarat: Days of Magic, Nights of War, and will possibly be followed by three more.

Once a headbanger...

My nape hurts ^___^

On Labels

Most people if you ask them will tell you in a heartbeat that they don't like labels, yet, everyone keeps labeling the others. "He is emo", "She is a prep", "Those are posers" etc. I must admit that I also label stuff. I label kitsch people, goth people, trendy people, I do it all the time and when I come to labeling myself I fail horribly. See, I went to a metal concert tonight. It was awesome and it's been three years since the last time I've been in one and I found myself getting into the forsaken track of the "metal chick ensemble". Black nail polish, smoky makeup, rings on all my fingers and boots. I might as well call myself a metalhead for the next few days but I know that in the first notes of "Suzie Q" I'll turn into a classic rocker that wants to shake, shake, shake. I know that I'll dive into Steampunk the next time I see a bodice or a cog. I know I will eventually return to the gothic dress style or an attempted goth style anyway since I can't afford "original" gothic clothes *cough*.

So what am I? When people ask me what kind of music I like I feel lost. I like, well, everything of quality. Greek people would understand which music genre I mean but there's that single one that I despise and I can't even listen to it if paid. I like gothic music but I also like metal, rock, industrial and steampunk music. It's a matter of time before I find yet another labeled genre to become a fan of. I don't even know why I am writing all of these, my feet hurt and it's late :)

PS- Clue of the night, Daniel asking us "Are you OK?" three times until we answered yes extremely loudly and then a person from the audience also asking "Are you OK?" Johan saying "Fuck yeah" loudly and Daniel wondering if we asked him "Are you gay" ROFLMAO
